Assassin’s Creed Ubisoft’s most successful franchise to date

ac47Ubisoft released some figures yesterday, as reported by Kotaku. The sales figures are from their franchises to date, and as of now the Assassin’s Creed series is on top. The franchise has sold 73 million copies to date, with the Just Dance series of games in second with 48 million units sold. Just Dance was followed by the Splinter Cell games (30 million), the Rainbow Six franchise (26 million), and the Ghost Recon titles (25 million). The top ten were rounded out by Petz, Rayman, Imagine, Prince of Persia, and Driver. The Far Cry franchise came in 11th at 18 million. Ubisoft employs 9200 team members worldwide, with 7800 of those being involved with game production.

At the end of 2013, Electronic Arts had held the largest amount of employees, at 9370, but since has been hit by layoffs. With EA’s workforce being reduced, it is likely that Ubisoft now holds the top spot for the number of employees.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise will grow again this year, with Assassin’s Creed: Unity being released this holiday season for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with its story being set during the French Revolution. A title for the PS3 and Xbox 360, currently being titled Assassin’s Creed: Comet, is also due out later this year.
