Bioshock going mobile, coming to iOS devices this summer

2K has announced that its now classic story driven shooter Bioshock will be coming to the iPhone and iPad this summer. Reports state that it is a faithful port of the game, allowing for graphical differences since the hardware isn’t as powerful as consoles or the PC. The game is adapted to use touch-screen controls, and 2K has given players the option of plugging in a controller as well, in anticipation that the touch screen controls may not be accurate enough, especially for the game’s combat. Jumping has been removed, however, and trophies/achievements have been replaced with the iOS Game Center rewards. Players will also have access to a digital artbook from a previous special edition of the game from consoles.

The game will not support saving to the cloud, so progress will need to be saved separately on your iPhone or iPad. The game will be available for the following devices: iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 5. The game will only be able to be played on those devices. Original developer Irrational is not handling the port, as they have downsized operations. Instead, publisher 2K has turned over porting duties to 2K China.

No release date or pricing has been announced yet, though 2K does say it will be a “premium priced mobile game” with a release window for “later this summer”. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
