I may had no right to give my thought on this anime because of I haven’t saw the first season of Clannad, I do feel lost of not watching the first season but the second season called Clannad: After Story did make me emotional especially after one of the main character died after they get married. Even then, I thought the story was finished after that but no, the story then moved on to the hardship of raise up their daughter after the death of Tomoya’s wife, Nagisa.
Obviously, this is a continuation of Clannad where the story focus on the life of Tomoya Okazaki, a student with his friends including his future wife, Nagisa Furukawa. Despite being a year older than Tomoya, she has to repeat her last year all over again thanks to the illness she suffered from previous year. To cut long story short, in the event of After Story, they get married but their marriage was not a perfect ending as anyone could have guess as the couple has to endured hardship including the illness that haunted Nagisa in their school year. Her death while delivering their first-born child truly strike Tomoya where it hurt the most that lead Nagisa’s parent took care of their daughter, Ushio. Years after, Ushio also suffer the same fate as her mother as she also have the same illness. Her dying wish is to go to a trip which at first Tomoya strongly declined the wish but when he also struck with a fever, they go to a trip. There, both Ushio and Tomoya meets their demise as his daughter embracing her father.
The story doesn’t end there. But for curiosity sake, I urge that you watch the Clannad: After Story immediately as it was a great anime to be enjoy with. For a light novel they are translated well, if not better in the anime. Clannad also spawned a several games and manga. Movie as well but the movie was a summary of both Clannad and this series. It is good when you start this great anime if you watched Clannad first otherwise, you might be a little confused. If I have to rate them, I give Clannad: After Story a 4/5 just because I haven’t till now watched the first Clannad.
