Summary:

As summer is approaching, this is also the time when a big blockbuster hit cinema. The most waited movies has already been showed; Ironman 3, Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek: Into Darkness. But what about those story that hasn’t caught a movie-goers attention like Now You See Me? This movie best described as a modern Robin Hood with a lot cliche, not a great movie but damn good for fun/entertainment. Starring Jesse Eisenberg as John Daniel Atlas, Woody Harrelson as Merrit McKinney, Isla Fisher (Henley Reeves) who is the only woman in the team of four horseman and Dave Franco. With the addition of Mark Rufallo,Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Melanie Laurent, who achieved breakthrough in Inglorious Bastard; The movie seems to be a big budget movies but is it worth it? This is Now You See Me.

Okay now I know the difference… Isla Fisher is cuter version of Amy Adams or is it otherwise?

The story begins with the four magicians were scout by a mysterious figure and they were invited by a 4 pieces of tarot card of Lovers, Death, Hermit and High Priestesses which I thinks the plot revolves around them.Skip to one year later, they form a group of four and call themselves as Four Horseman and for their last magic show, they have a volunteer steals money from bank. That when the Detective Dylan Rhodes with Frenchwomen Interpol, Alma Dray joins the cast. To catch the Four Horsemen, Rhodes and Dray seeks the help from, to what I like to call this movie version of mask magician who show secrets of every magician, Thaddeus Bradley. This of course brings the attention of Four Horseman benefactor, Arthur Tessler who wishes to stop Bradley from unlocking Four Horseman secrets. What’s the Four Horsemen objectives. Who or what is The Eyes of Horus? Can Rhodes stop their plans?

Basic trick of them all…. seriously when people will notice mirror in a box

Like I said earlier, if anyone doesn’t like a movie with cliche, this is not suitable for them because from what I see, Now You See Me is fill with cliche. But it’s cliche make the story watchable. I mean you can guess who is the mastermind just after all main characters have showed but then is it a correct guess? As quoted in the beginning of the movie; As you come closer, that when the trick begins or something along that lines. The story is not that too deep so it is easily grasp by anyone. One of my gripe about this movie is that Michael Caine as antagonist. I mean after watched Christopher Nolan’s Batman series and this is the fourth movies featuring Morgan Freeman and him together, Caine performance as greedy businessman doesn’t convince me a lot. Freeman maybe but with Caine, I am sorry but it is not working. Another thing is what is the role of Ms Fisher exactly other than being Atlas assistant most of the time. If that is the case, better shows her of as someone assistant rather than shows her ability as an escape artist. Then tell the audiences that she was chosen because she is the most valuable assistant any magician can have. I know it just a lame excuse but it is better than escaping a tank.

Morgan Freeman as a ‘masked magician’…. but without the mask. I wonder if he forgot to put them on.

This movie is certainly for those who loves magic but if you want fun or light material in the story, I recommended Now You Can See Me as watchable. No boring interaction between characters as you want to dig more about each secrets contains in the movie. Just like magic where this is a pure entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less. If anyone seeks a funny moments, I think the moment where someone got hypnotized by McKinney is best of them all. Other than that, it was a minimal laughter at best.
