The 2D pixel brawler Rivals of Aether was first confirmed for the Switch in January last year, but since then, there have been no further updates. The game’s creator – Dan Fornace – at the time said the Nintendo version of the game was a priority and explained how he was looking for developers to help out with the port.
Now, in the latest update, Fornace has reconfirmed the Switch version of Rivals of Aether in a video message at Super Smash Con – explaining how the team is currently hard at work on the Nintendo release and is rebuilding the netcode (thanks, Nintendo Everything).
Fornace also mentioned a number of multiplayer updates coming to the game:
One of the biggest upgrades is that Rivals will be going from a two-player online game to up to four players, which means you’ll be able to queue for 1v1, 2v2, or free-for-all online. We’re also updating the friendly lobbies system, allowing you also to go up to four players, but you can go past that and have spectators. This allows you to do rotation lobbies. You can also spectate four-player matches. So these are all a ton of upgrades we’ve been working on behind-the-scenes.
