Fancy a new look? 3DS Theme Update is now available to download (US)
Ever since Nintendo announced the New Nintendo 3DS, people have been hyping or ranting about the device. For some, they supported the idea of the device, as it comes with “new” and smart features. However, the name is one thing Nintendo has always had problems with. Take the Wii U for instance, many people still get confused about the console being a follow up to the Wii U or whether its just another revised Wii. In light of the announcement of the New Nintendo 3DS, Ninty also announced that users can finally change their device’s theme. (firmware update version 9.0.0-20 available to download now)
So what’s up in this new firmware update?
Well as you already know, the primary addition of firmware version 9.0.0-20 is the addition of themes, of which there are over a dozen. Five free themes are available with the update, with more available to purchase and download in the Theme Shop, which can be found on the HOME Menu. These include more colors and patterns, plus special themes based on fan-favorites such as Mario and The Legend of Zelda series that come with music, sound effects, and animations.

However that’s not all;
- Users can now use themes to customize the design and sounds of the HOME Menu
- Five themes are pre-installed and additional themes can be purchased from the Theme Shop
- Themes can be changed by using settings located within the HOME Menu settings
- A feature has been added that allows users to capture screenshots of their HOME Menu
- The Nintendo eShop Title Information page has been updated to provide easier access to any available videos, demos, user reviews, and other information
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
For those who are very eager to get this right now as their reading it, but don’t know how to manually update their device, here’s how!
1) Select System Settings from the HOME menu.
2) Select Other Settings.
3) Scroll the page all the way to the right, and select System Update.
This is by far the most interesting update Nintendo has had in a long time for the 3DS, as most of the previous updates were primarily focused on improving the ‘stability’ of the device.
