Holiday Gift Guide 2013- Pt 3 (Platformers and RPGs)

Continuing along with our gift suggestions for this holiday season, here are some more games that may interest those on your lists.

Rayman Legends- Available on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and the PC (59.99, 39.99 on PC). Rayman is back, and once again the Glade of Dreams is in trouble. There’s plenty of variety in the game’s 80+ levels, with challenging 3D bosses that can attack you from any angle. You can tackle the levels solo, or play co-op with up to 4 friends both on- and offline.

Puppeteer- Available on the PS3 (39.99). A very different and delightful platformer, set up as a stage play, complete with narrator and an audience that cheers, laughs, and gasps along with the action. You play as Kutaro, who battles against the Moon Bear King. Interchangeable heads grant you different abilities, and they, along with a magical pair of scissors, help you to make your way through the game’s levels. Utterly charming and loaded with humor, it’s a game that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch- Available on the PS3 (29.99). A wonderful, enchanting RPG from developer Level 5 and graphics courtesy of Studio Ghibli. After tragedy befalls young Oliver, he journeys to a mysterious land along with Drippy, King of the Fairies, a stuffed toy brought to life. The battle system is a nice combination of real time action and turn based tactics, and there’s a huge world to explore and the ability to capture and train monsters to aid you in battle. Beautiful to look at and fun to play for all ages.

Tales of Xillia- Available on the PS3 (59.99). The latest entry in the Tales series, this has you choose between two characters: Jude Mathis, a promising young medical student, or Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman who is accompanied by the Four Great Spirits. The adventure takes you across the world of Rieze Maxia, and you can experience both sides of the story from either Jude’s or Milla’s perspective. The battle system allows you to link with another in your party to land some devastating combos, and allows for a range of strategy in approaching enemies. The graphics and music are both terrific, and the story is well told, with plenty to see and do across the world.

Fire Emblem: Awakening- Available on the Nintendo 3DS (39.99). Accompanied with some beautiful visuals, the game has a deep story line that allows you to choose from a large cast of characters, who you can form strong bonds between and even have them marry. The bonds enable them to perform better in battle as you engage in a quest to stop a dark dragon. The game also has a multiplayer mode, allowing you to team up with a friend and fight a group of enemies.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix- Available on the PS3 (39.99). A high definition collection of two of the games from the beloved series, Kingdom Hearts Final Mix from the PS2 and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories which originally appeared on the Gameboy Advance and then on the PS2. This remix also contains scenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days to help round out the story. A wonderful melding of beloved Disney characters and settings with favorite characters from the Final Fantasy franchise.

More suggestions to come in our next part! Stay tuned!
