Marvel is now the number one grossing movie franchise

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has hit a new milestone. With the opening weekend success of its latest movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the Marvel franchise has now grossed 2.46 billion dollars, making it the highest grossing film franchise domestically, out pacing Harry Potter (2.39 billion dollars) and Star Wars (1.91 billion dollars). The franchise is currently made up of nine films, with one more yet to open this year to round out its Phase 2 stage which will culminate in the sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. Phase 3 then begins, which will contain the movies Ant-Man and Captain America 3, among others. As a reminder, here are the films so far in order:
