Nintendo Files Patent for Smartphone Game Boy Case
Smartphones have the ability to do virtually everything you need to do in today’s world aside from calling and texting. You can use it to snap a photo, surf the web, listen to music, and even watch videos. In the past, we all had separate devices for each feature, with one notable standalone handheld gaming device being the Nintendo Game Boy.
Soon, we might just it integrated with smartphones complete with buttons as Nintendo has filed a patent for a Game Boy case for use with smartphones.
Nintendo is said to be working on a folio case which can turn a smartphone into a working Game Boy, complete with working buttons and a D-pad. The case fully encloses a smartphone and utilizes a sheet of conductive material to transmit a finger’s touch to the touchscreen display. The square window above the buttons will serve to mimic the Game Boy’s display.
The FCC approved a Nintendo wireless game device on the same date that the patent was published, though the FCC’s approval includes an approved 180 days of confidentiality so the images of the device are not included with the approval. Taking into account the 180 days, it appears that we might just see this smartphone Game Boy case this holiday season.
We have seen plenty of Classic Nintendo games available on the Google Play Story and Apple App Store, along with a myriad of new mobile games by the Japanese giant. The launch of this folio case will surely push their presence in the mobile gaming space even more. On its own, it’s already something that can be seen as what gamers would purchase just for the sake having one.
However, it’s worth noting that in the patent report, it may also be used for other electronics, not just smartphones. However, given the amount of power that smartphones possess these days as well as the sheer amount of people who own one, smartphones would definitely be the prime focus for such a product.
