Nintendo unifies users accounts on 3DS and Wii U

Nintendo today launched Nintendo Network ID functionality for its 3DS handheld, allowing owners of both a 3DS and a Wii U to link the two devices with a single account for the first time.

While unified digital accounts for games consoles have been the norm for Microsoft and Sony for some time now, Nintendo only recently introduced user accounts with its Nintendo Wii U console. With an update today, the 3DS now also has this functionality, and can be linked up to a Nintendo Network ID.

This means that digital games bought for the 3DS and the Wii U can now be stored together in the same account. As part of the update, the Miiverse social media network has also been added to the 3DS with its own set of communities, and can be accessed from the main menu.
