According to the official sales from Chart-Track, Sony’s newest console broke an eight year old sales record held by another Sony product, the PSP. Within the first 48 hours of going on sale in the UK, the PS4 has reportedly sold 250,000 units, making it the fastest selling console on record in the UK. The old record was held by the PSP, which had sold 185,000 units in the same time period on its release in 2005. By way of comparison, Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One, sold 150,000 units at release in the first 48 hours, and the PS3 sold 165,000 units over a similar time period at its release. Console sales helped boost those of several games as well, with the top three spots going to Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, and Battlefield 4, respectively. Although sales may be a bit skewed due to the game being included in launch bundles, Sony exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall came in fourth. Another Sony exclusive, the family friendly Knack, placed thirteenth on the list, just ahead of Super Mario 3D World.
