Pokdepicks 5 Awesome Games to Look Out for in November 2019

Death Stranding

The first major game by Hideo Kojima since his departure from Konami, Death Stranding is an upcoming action game featuring The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. In this game, people have become accustomed to living in isolation and have created “Walls” to separate themselves. The goal is for gamers to reconnect the isolated cities and fragmented society.

The game was said to be designed with the concept that all of the game’s elements, including story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. Gamers take on the role of Sam Porter Bridges as he attempts to bridge the divides in society, and create new bonds or “Strands” with other gamers around the globe.

Fun fact, Death Stranding was heavily promoted as a PS4-exclusive game since its first major reveal. Recently, the exclusive branding disappeared, which led to speculations that the game will be coming to another platform. That has been confirmed as Death Stranding will be coming to PC sometime in 2020.

Death Stranding will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on 8th November 2019.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

The first instalment in the 8th generation Pokemon game series, Pokemon Sword and Shield is a role-playing game featuring everyone’s favourite pet monsters. In this iteration, the game is set in the Galar region, a large, narrow expanse of land with a modern setting. Like in other Pokemon games, gamers will embark on a journey to become the strongest trainer in the region.

The journey will begin alongside neighbour and rival trainer, Hop. As for the three starter Pokemons from Professor Magnlia, you have the choice of the grass-type Grookey, fire-type Scorbunny, and the water-type Sobble. After receiving a letter of endorsement from Champion Leon, you will have to face off against Gym Leaders in the region in order to be the crowned the best trainer in Galar.

Fun fact, Pokemon Sword and Shield will have redesigned appearances for previously introduced Pokemons based on the Galar region theme. In fact, some Pokemons like Weezing will gain a new Galarian evolution form exclusive to the game, making it viable to explore the game in its entirety to see new evolutions.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will be coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on 15th November 2019.

Need for Speed Heat

The 24th instalment in the popular EA racing simulator series, Need for Speed Heat is a racing game set in an open world environment. The game is set in Palm City, a fictionalized version of the city of Miami, Florida and its surrounding area. The game has a rather large playable area including a diverse geography with mountainous areas and open fields.

This game doesn’t include a 24-hour cycle but instead players can switch between day and night. During the day, players can take part in sanctioned race events, which reward players with cash to spend on new cars and upgrades. They can also take part in illegal street races at night, which would earn players rep which will influence the difficulty of police chases. Players will have to evade the cops by either reaching their safehouse or before the car is destroyed.

Fun fact, Need for Speed Heat marks the return of the Ferrari brand after a noticeable absence since Need for Speed Payback. This was due to licensing issues so EA wasn’t allowed to feature the brand in their games. This game will also have one of the most extensive lists of playable cars, with a total of 127 cars from a total of 33 different brands.

Need for Speed Heat will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 8th November 2019.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

One of the most highly-anticipated games of 2019, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure game that ties in with the original movie trilogy. Taking place after Revenge of the Sith, protagonist Cal Kestis is one of the last remaining Jedi that managed to evade Order 66 and their galaxy-wide purge of the Jedi Order.

After attempting to salvage a Venator Class Star Destroyer above a Sarlacc Pit, an accident happens in which Cal has to openly use the Force to save one of his friends, which is witnessed by a nearby Imperial Probe Droid. The droid transmits the footage to the Empire, unveiling Cal’s true identity. The Empire dispatches the Second Sister, an inquisitor trained by Darth Vader, and Cal will have to do his best to survive the oncoming hunt.

Fun fact, game director Stig Asmussen mentioned that the gameplay aspect of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Dark Souls. The reason for this is because one of the team’s goals for game design is to have a deep combat system, and the two games mentioned fit the bill.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 15th November 2019.

Shenmue III

The game series that managed to make a return with the help of crowdfunding, Shenmue III is an action-adventure game and is the sequel to Shenmue II that was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2001. In 1987, protagonist Ryo Hazuki has journeyed from Japan to the mountains of China in search of his father’s killer, Lan Di.

There he met Ling Shenhua, a mysterious girl who previously appeared in his dreams. After learning the legend of her village, which foretells a united path between them, Ryo and Shenhua embark on a new journey which reveals their shared destiny. The journey won’t be easy however as Lan Di returns, with a new antagonist, the Chiyoumen carter leader Niao Sun.

Fun fact, Shenmue III is the fastest game to raise USD $1 million on Kickstarter, achieving that figure in just 1 hour and 44 minutes. The crowdfunding campaign ended on 17th July 2015 with a total of USD $6.3 million raised from over 69,000 backers, becoming the most funded Kickstarter video game campaign and the 6th-most funded Kickstarter campaign of all time.

Shenmue III will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PC on 19th November 2019.
