Pure PlayStation Plays: Week 192

What a bloody week, eh? Just about every damn game went and got delayed, either by a few weeks or a few months. We’ve had rumours that PS4 exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dreams will be on PC and that we’ll be seeing the PS5 in less than a month’s time. If you’re spending the weekend with a bottle of whiskey to try to make sense of it all, I don’t blame you!

However, I would advise against it. Instead, play some games! Winter is still knocking around, so make the most of the cold weather and stay indoors with some games. It won’t last for long, you know, so make the most of it before spring and summer roll around and introduce annoying glare to your TV screen. Here’s what we’re doing this weekend:

Chris Harding

I’ve been out of the game for a while. I’ve either been too sick or too knackered from work to play. This weekend will be different. I’ve got a supply of Red Bull to keep me going and a brand new Oculus Quest headset to wrap around my face. I’ll be spending my evenings inside my Quest with my colleague Jez in Onward VR and/or Pavlov: Shack.

I’ve also got Eclipse: Edge of Light to play this weekend for a review over on Pure PSVR. I’m looking forward to using my PSVR headset again; it’s not as good as the Quest, but the comfort is on another level and I always appreciate the design when I put it on.

Other than some VR, I haven’t really mapped out my weekend. I’ve got Saturday and Sunday off from work, so I’ll probably get out of the house for a bit and do something that society deems acceptable. Or go to the zoo and try to teach the monkeys how to give the finger.

Kyle Durant

The current backlog run is almost complete with only Here They Lie and Ghost Giant needing some playtime. Both are around two and a half hours long so I’m assuming come Monday I will be backlog free until the next sale.

Jason Frye

This weekend will be full of family activities, but I’ll be getting back on the bike for a little more time with Days Gone. It certainly has flaws (like respawning and being stuck in a truck engine) that are balanced out with good. We’ll see it if stays that way.

Justin McKay

I’ll be mostly doing some co-op Borderlands 3 and trying to decide who’s ‘my’ character, plus I’ll be attempting to play some Berserk, time permitting.

Hannah Ellis

It’s a toss-up between Doom and Borderlands this weekend, but I’ll probably punish myself with the former. Plus, I’m hoping to get a few more laps of Le Mans finished in Project Cars 2, though the immersion is broken when the Jack Russell decides to lie across the pedals.

Stuart McLean

With the external hard drive well and truly up and running I’m spoilt for choice this weekend – do I continue the current trend of revisiting games I’ve already completed or start something new? Having barely spent any time at all playing it before deleting it to make precious disc space, I’m eager to give The Elder Scrolls Online another go, but as a rule I’m a solo gamer and the whole “online” thing is a bit intimidating. I’d much prefer to sit alone like the recluse that I am and play something that doesn’t involve me having to react and respond to “real” people, but you never know!

Jeremy Peterson

Modern Warfare is having a double XP weekend so I might fire that back up and see if I got any better at it. That logic may not check out, but that’s never stopped me before. I’ve also been dipping my toes into The Witcher 3 because it’s never too late to play a classic. I can see why it’s so beloved, but it didn’t take long to remember why I was reluctant to play it in the first place: the lore, the story, the world is so massive, it becomes overwhelming. I hope to play some of those, but I guarantee I’ll be donning the headset and playing Pavlov VR with Chris. It’s been too long since I’ve crawled along my basement floor, trying to avoid gunfire while Chris screams random British insults at no one in particular.

Max Taylor

I’ll be getting the last few trophies in Jedi: Fallen Order, a game I’ve enjoyed more than I expected despite all its derivativeness and bugs. After that it’s onto continuing the backlog clean up with Life is Strange 2 and maybe Call of Duty.
