HitFix has confirmed that the character of James “Rhodey” Rhodes, aka Iron Patriot/War Machine will be joining the rest of the heroes in The Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron. Don Cheadle will reprise the role that he played in both Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3. The report first came out through USA Today following Cheadle receiving a Golden Globe nomination for his work in the Showtime series House of Lies. How big a part the character will have remains to be seen, as he would expand the Avengers roster that already includes Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlet Johannsen), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2015, and will be directed by Joss Whedon.
In other news dealing with a sequel in a long running sci-fi franchise, actress Emilia Clarke (who plays Daenerys in the HBO series Game of Thrones) has signed on to play the role of Sarah Connor in the fifth entry of the Terminator series, according to Variety. The next film will be called Terminator: Genesis, and has already cast Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) in the role of John Connor. Still up for grabs is the role of Kyle Reese, with Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class), and Boyd Holbrook (The Host) named as the frontrunners for the part. Terminator: Genesis has a couple of more Game of Thrones ties: its director is Alan Taylor, who has directed several episodes, and it also stars Lena Headey, who played Sarah Connor in the FOX television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also set to return to the franchise that made him a star. Terminator: Genesis opens in theaters on July 1, 2015.
