Whether you like it or not, Mario Kart Wii is still the best-selling entry in the series to date. As a result, it’s got a huge following – even after the more recent success of Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
With this in mind, three new “ultra shortcuts” were recently discovered in the Wii title within the period of 24 hours. Prior to 11th July, there were apparently only 18 known shortcuts in the 2008 kart racer. For the uninformed, ultra shortcuts are essentially glitches – allowing players to skip more than half a lap on any track.
Mario Kart YouTuber Flamin’ Funky shared and explained all three of these newly discovered shortcuts in an in-depth video (see below), that were found in tool-assisted speed runs (abbreviated as TAS).
The first one takes place on N64 Bowser’s Castle and was discovered by speedrunner MKWLuke. The second is located in GBA Shy Guy Beach and was found by a player named Catfish, and the third one is contained within Koopa Cape and was uncovered by BlazeMSX. The shortcuts in Bowser’s Castle and Koopa Cape can supposedly be done in TAS. Take a look below:
Do you find these sort of glitches and exploits interesting? Do you still play Mario Kart Wii? Leave a comment below.
