Next-gen rumours are starting to swill around the internet, so it was only a matter of time before famed developer Rockstar Games was brought into the fray.
Unlike some rumours, this one actually has a bit of weight to it, thanks to the developer/publishers official website.
Rockstar has posted a new job listing on its website for a video editor to help out together a trailer, while conveying “emotional content and excitement of a game within a 60-second format”. Definitely sounds like a trailer, then, but for what?
With next-gen patiently waiting in the wings, it’s more than likely that Rockstar’s next release will land on PS4 and PS5. Could it be the long-rumoured GTA 6 set in Vice City? Maybe, but given the ongoing success of the money cow that is GTA V and GTA Online, there’s no rush for Rockstar to put out a new entry that could galvanise GTA Online’s income.
Bully 2 has been rumoured for years with numerous “leaks” and what not. It’s possible we could be heading back to Bullworth Acadamy. However, if I had to put my own cash on the table and make a bet, I’d say it’s something related to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 released to critical acclaim back in 2018, and the game has recently released on PC, too. It is still very young and there is yet room to grow. Lots of room. About the size of, say, Red Dead Redemption 1.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has a great big map that includes most of the original map from Rockstar’s last-gen Red Dead Redemption, though it is barely used at all in Red Dead 2. It has been theorised that Rockstar may look to remake the original game inside the Red Dead Redemption 2 game engine to pack the epic story together.
It makes sense, too. Red Dead Redemption is only playable on PS4 via PS Now, and that’s a streaming-only game. There’s no solid way to play the game in its original form without pulling out the PS3. On Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption is playable via backwards compatibility, but it’s hardly a unified experience. It’d make sense, then, that Rockstar would look to put the original game inside the sequel, and possibly charge a hefty fee for access.
Tenner says I’m right. We’ll see soon enough.
