Sunset Overdrive trailer and details

It’s been a while for Insomniac Games to put out something that was both well received by critics and gamers alike, the last possible title being Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time in 2009. Their last game Fuse was more of a generic shooter, and did little to generate any excitement for the once venerable developer of games like Resistance: Fall of Man and the Spyro games. They’re hoping to change that around with their Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive. Take a look at the trailer below.

Sunset Overdrive is a single player only open-world adventure/shooter with an emphasis on crazy weaponry and flashy traversal of the terrain. It’s set in a post apocalyptic world, but this post apocalypse isn’t all doom and gloom, like the Resistance series. Instead, the fictional metropolis of Sunset City in the year 2027, where the game takes place, is portrayed with a bright, colorful palette. Also present is a sly sense of humor, giving you ways to pull off spectacular and ridiculous shots a la Bulletstorm. The city is run by a mega-corporation named FizzCo and has been overrun by mutant creatures called the ODs (who, perhaps not too coincidentally, resemble the Chimera from the Resistance series, given the fact that both Sunset Overdrive and the Resistance games are the work of creators Marcus Smith and Drew Murray). Characters are completely customizable and can carry up to eight weapons at a time.

Sunset Overdrive is set for release later this year.
