Coulson and Centipede and Clairvoyants, oh my !
The episode opens with a brief series of clips, recapping the earlier episodes of the show dealing with …you guessed it, Super Soldiers ! It’s probably a good thing too, because…
This week’s show opens with a prison break, fueled by a team of said aforementioned soldiers. I’m guessing its not Orange Tang running through their veins. Cue the Agents !
There’s a nice not too awkward scene with Skye and Coulson, right off the bat. It’s nice to see Skye continuing her search for her parents, which has been brought up in previous episodes. Coulson warns her that its a long road ahead (even though he obviously knows way more than he’s telling Skye) and she brings up the possibility of getting her tracker removes, which he won’t agree to at all. However, he does reassure her that he has May working on accessing the restricted files for info. Skye responds with a statement about hoping that this stuff could remain private, to which Coulson responds, “May specializes in private.” Thought that was cute.
There’s a mission briefing, a nice closeup of the Centipede device, and a brief intro to a new member of the team that S.H.I.E.L.D HQ is sending as backup, or to help, “fight fire with fire”. Oh boy. Skye’s comment on the guy getting sprung from prison, “He’s a walking mug shot,” was funny.
A familiar face reports for duty soon after, much to May’s dismay. I like her and all, but she seems to come off very Marvin lately (#Hitchhiker’sGuideReference). It might be just me, but her whole “one mistake at a time,” thing is really becoming played out.
There’s a fun scene with Simmons and a bit of an exam in the lab, before Fitz joins in and they both get a little too curious about the whole Centipede thing.
There’s a lovely little scene with Ward and Coulson, where Coulson shares a memory of a former love. Its a side of Coulson we don’t get to see much of, and its a rare and refreshing change.
There’s a bit more on mysterious flower dress lady, aka Reina. There’s some talk about Centipede related stuff and then we get to see….Centipede Infused Soldiers! (Or as Simmons would say, “…more hard bodies?”)
There’s a scene with Ward playing a lottery commissioner and Coulson’s a bit too perfect reply, “nothing makes people more suspicious than a handsome man offering them free money!” Gotta love that logic.
They do get the info they need, however, and its off to Oakland !
After a brief moment with Skye, we get to see our formerly reluctant, now eager hero all suited up and ready to go. His new suit apparently measures a variety of bodily functions and even offers ballistic protection. They must have gone to Big 5.
We get to see Ward and May take on Generic Solder #1 and Coulson and Peterson take on #2. There’s a funny moment when Coulson shoots #2 and he gets up after a moment, to which Coulson replies, “used to pack a bigger punch.” Peterson responds with, “I remember.” Thought that was funny.
A bit more on the mysterious “clairvoyant”. I’m just hoping it isn’t Donald Trump.
There’s a nice scene between Peterson and Coulson before our friend Reina pops up again, as if we couldn’t see that coming.
There’s a prisoner exchange scene, that isn’t the one we expect and some more action and tension and a nice cliffhanger leading up to the series’ return in January.
All in all, its an interesting episode, even if it isn’t terribly compelling.
