Put your hands together for the half-genie hero, Shantae, who celebrated her 17th video game birthday a few days ago. Yes, the WayForward mascot created by Erin and Matt Bozon started out life on the Game Boy Color in 2002. Although the character’s first game sold poorly due to the fact the Game Boy Advance was already out, Shantae was able to bounce back in 2010 and has never looked back.
To celebrate the big occasion, WayForward posted the following message on its Twitter account:
If you’re wondering what’s on the horizon for Shantae, WayForward is currently developing a new game in the series for the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms. This fifth entry is expected to be released “later this year” and is tentatively titled Shantae 5.
